Patient care technician is a health care professional working in the health care center whose prime job is to take care of patients.

Following are the key duties of a patient care technician-

  • Take care of patients and their needs.
  • Assist nurses and doctors in medical procedures.
  • Conduct patients checkups before doctors come to administer.
  • Keep track of patient’s histories and medical records.
  • Explain the course of treatment to patients.
  • Prepare charts that comprise of patient's ailments, allergies, previous illnesses and the present treatment. This makes things easy for doctors when coming to administer patients.
  • Prepare charts for patients explaining medication details.
  • Prepare patients and take them to the examination room for the tests.
  • File the reports of patients properly.
  • Take care of patients daily needs like dressings, changing bed sheets, feeding and helping with bath.
  • Few additional tasks that are to be taken care of by patients care technician include answering calls, and delivering of messages to patients or doctors, along with keeping a stock of supplies ready in health center.

To become a skilled patient care technician, one requires pursuing specialized training that involves be good in communication skills, understand patient care duties, keeping medical safety standards, learn medical terminologies and anatomy.
